The goal of the Curriculum and Instruction Department is to provide support to teachers and schools as we seek to inspire, nurture, challenge, and prepare our students.
According to the Georgia Department of Education, the
purposes of the Georgia Student Assessment Program are
to measure student achievement of the state mandated
curriculum, to identify students failing to achieve mastery
of content, to provide teachers with diagnostic information,
and to assist school systems in identifying strengths and
weaknesses in order to establish priorities in planning
As you may be aware, test security has been an important
focus across school systems in recent years. The Gainesville
City School System is committed to ensuring that all testing is conducted with attention to the highest regard for ethics. As such, all test coordinators and examiners are trained before each testing event on appropriate test administration and security procedures. This training includes instruction on the Georgia Professional Standards Commission’s Code of Ethics regarding test administration.
If you have questions regarding the Georgia Assessment Program, please call our testing office at 770-536-5275.
Important note regarding high school courses with an associated End of Course assessment:
For EOC courses:
For the 2017-18 school year, any student enrolled in an EOC course must take the associated End-of-Course assessment that will constitute 20% of their final grade for the course.
For the 2017-18 school year, the number of state required tests has been reduced for students in
grades 3 through 8. Students in grades 3 through 8 will take the English Language Arts and Math End-of-Grade assessments while Science and Social Studies will only be assessed in grades 5 and 8.
